Shophouses

Before the big building boom, Singapore was famous for its rows of 2 and 3 story shophouses. Some still survive. Raffles, the founder of Singapore, decreed that all stores should provide a "5 foot way", or covered sidewalk. These become canyons of product where they still exist.
